Street Tire Class:
Our steet tire time attack car took another podium spot this weekend!! This gives us 3 podiums for 3 events that we competed in this season!
The weekend started off hot and humid! We forgot how bad Florida really can be in the summertime. Definitely not ideal for time attack cars that are tuned and setup to the ragged edge. There we a lot of casualties this weekend with cars blowing turbos and motors. Luckily we were not one of those teams!
Todd Reid has never been to Sebring International Raceway. Saturday was spent learning the track. Todd decided to play it safe and drive the car 6/10ths of its capabilities so he could safely learn the track and not put the car in harms way making sure it would be in its prime on Sunday for the timed sessions that count! On Sunday we had only 2 timed sessions that counted. It was imperative that Todd laid down the hammer. The first time session was a disaster. Todd was unable to complete a lap because a hose blew off the fuel pressure regulator. Essentially a freakish occurrence. The second session was up after lunch time (the last timed session of the day) Todd had to make it really count this time and the pressure was on! Unfortunately he was unable to get a clean run in as there was slower traffic on track that he lapped after just 2 laps. For some reason the Redline officials let out enthusiast class cars in our session that were considerably slower and prevented us from making a clean lap in the last time session. Despite this dilemma Todd's time was still good for second place! We would also would like to congratulate the Professional Awesome Time Attack guys for winning 1st place and providing us with great competition!
Modified AWD Class:
Our Modified car was plagued with problems all weekend yet again! Prior to the race virtually everything was replaced and repaired on the car. Despite that the car was still breaking up real bad. The hotter it got the worse it broke up. The super hot climate of Sebring was not helping out any. The crew went over thing again in the pits, replacing everything from the fuel system, fuel filters, fuel lines to most of the electrical system. The car was not having it and was still breaking up badly. The crew feverishly worked on the car prior to the last time event and it looked like they would not make it out. Then a blessing from above came and a black flag was waived on the track halting the session. This gave Whit Staples enough time to go out and try the car one last time. The car held it together for one lap (despite it starting to break up badly the last quarter of the lap). Luckily this is Whit Staples home track and he just needed to go really fast in the twisty bits to make up for lack of power in the straights due to the excessive breaking up of ignition / fuel system. Whit Staples delivered and ended up snagging third place despite technical difficulty and being down on power by at least 200hp!!
We would like to extend a huge thanks to our crew and our time attack partners www.amstuning.com who did one heck of a job prepping the cars and working on them all weekend !
Stay Tuned for the 2011 season.
